Sec One Camp

For this year’s sec one camp, my batch was assigned as group leaders to the Sec Ones. Our sec three seniors told us to make nametags and flag. The nametags were for every member in the group and for every seniors that will be there. The flag represents our group.

There were four groups in total : Persevere, Peace, Lavish and Nibble. I am assigned to be in Lavish with Hui Xuan and Kiran. At first, we were lazy to do the nametags and flags. But when we realised that we had a week left, we kept worrying things like: Will we complete the nametags and flags in time? What if we do not have enough material?

We also had some difficulties along the way. Some people did not cooperate with us. Some were not free and had other activities. Some could not get the materials needed. We were only given one week.

For the first day of the camp, we were both excited and afraid. We were excited because we could not wait for the activities to start. We were afraid because we might not be up to standard as it was our first time leading our juniors.

We fall in according to our groups. Our seniors had to check our bags in case of any unauthorized items brought in. After checking our bags, each group was given two eggs and a piece of paper. The eggs represented as our lives and the piece of paper was to record our points. The eggs and paper are to be in our pockets and not in our bags.

After we were assigned to our classrooms, we had to arranged the classroom such as all the tables and chairs are to be at the side and bags in the classroom.

We went down and played some ice breakers. Before any activities, we had to do roll call to report our strength. The purpose for the ice breakers is to get to know our group mates and also to communicate with them.

We had dinner and then we did night walk. The night walk was so much scarier than last year. I have never scream so much for a long time! We had scoldings and punishment from our seniors. After our punishments, we had 10 minutes for us to wash up and then it was lights out. We were not allowed to bathe as it is a training camp.

On the last da, we learnt campcraft and had some activities. However, the campcraft was mostly for the sec ones because they were going to have a test later. We had lunch then had some activities. Later, it was dismissal.

I felt that some of the sec ones were not co-operating with us. When they were told to learn how to do roll call, some did not want to learn and we had no choice but to whisper to them. Some of the sec ones were also very rude to us. There was a sec one girl that called Samantha "fat pig"!
Overall I felt that this camp taught us a lot of things. We did things in a more mature way. We learnt how to lead our juniors.
